Error: PNG support required for GUI compilation, please install libpng and libpng-dev packages.

Check "configure.log" if you do not understand why it failed.

any ideas?

asilentmurmur 04-01-2005 02:05 AM

ok i installed libpng and the libpng-devel packages and now when i do ./configure --enable-gui it tells me (after running through the configuration) that i need X11 support to run the GUI. But i am running KDE 3.2! Dont I already have X11 support? Or do I need additional packages? Any ideas? please help :(

reddazz 04-01-2005 02:32 AM

You need the X server development packages. They should be named something like xorg-X11-devel (or xfree86 if using an old distro).

asilentmurmur 04-01-2005 05:08 AM

I do have Xfree86 installed already on my linux, i have XFree86 version 4.3.99.902-40 installed on my box. Yet when i still run the ./configure --enable -gui command, it still asks for X11 support for the GUI. Any ideas?

asilentmurmur 04-01-2005 05:15 AM

ok i installed the X11 development packages now its asking for the GTK development packages, i installed those also, but its still asking for that

reddazz 04-01-2005 09:20 AM

Post exact details of the error message e.g. the last part printed by ./configure containing the error message. I think you need gtk-devel an not gtk2-devel. The two are different so can be safely installed on the same system.

I checked configure.log and it doesnt tell me anything about the GTK error, it just says

=========== Checking for GTK version ============

and the file ends right there. Any ideas whats going on with this thing?

asilentmurmur 04-01-2005 01:45 PM

I have the gtk-devel package already installed on my system (i installed it through YaST) but im still getting that GTK error

reddazz 04-01-2005 02:13 PM

There are two versions of gtk, gtk1.x (normally just called gtk) and gtk2.x. You need to make sure that you have both installed as well as their development packages.

asilentmurmur 04-01-2005 02:29 PM

i do have both of those installed, but i still get that error ; /

evil_empire 04-01-2005 02:43 PM

Plzz don't post modified error messages. Post the exact error messages, just copy it from the console and paste it here. We need to know what/which GTK version configure found to be able to help you.
You can also post the contents of the file configure.log in the mplayer source directory.

asilentmurmur 04-01-2005 03:32 PM

ok well here is the section of the ./configure --enable-gui output that contains the error message:

hecking for Subtitles sorting ... yes
Checking for XMMS inputplugin support ... no
Checking for inet6 ... yes
Checking for gethostbyname2 ... yes
Checking for GUI ... yes

Also configure.log only gives me this error when it comes to the GTK configuration part:

Result is: yes
##########################################

============ Checking for GTK version ============

Thats ALL it shows for the GTK part

I have gtk version 1.2.10-877-i586 and gtk2 2.2.4-125.4-i586 and gtk-devel 1.2.10-877-i586 and gtk2-devel 2.2.4-125.4-i586 installed already on my system. Yet the configure script of mplayer does not recognize this. I dont know why

Pete M 04-01-2005 03:40 PM

Why not try a Suse 9.1 rpm from Packman, just a thought

Mplayer

Pete

asilentmurmur 04-01-2005 03:55 PM

ok i tried the rpm package from packman and these are the errors it gives me

@linux:~/MPlayer> rpm -i MPlayer-2.0pre6a-pm.2.i586.rpm

any ideas?

evil_empire 04-01-2005 04:07 PM

run like this
rpm -ivh MPlayer-2.0pre6a-pm.2.i586.rpm --nodeps

If you still want to compile from the source post back.
