mplayer on suse 9.3

I only want this, don't Really Need it.

I understand that legal issues keep DVD playing off major distros
for now.

I only want it as a bonus for not running MS any longer.

In YAST, I went to Online Update. I feel that was wrong. I've seen the site to download mplayer; I'm not sure which filr to download.

I have an ATI Radeon Video card and know to download VIDIX for it.

Can I use YAST to assist with this?

Thanks a lot,

Have you added any yast repositories? if not you should add some by:

1) loading YAST
2) click Installation Source
3) click add then select http
4) for server name put ftp.gwdg.de
5) for Directory on server put pub/linux/misc/suser-guru/rpm/9.3/
6) click ok
7) repeat steps 1-3
8) this time for sever name put packman.iu-bremen.de
9) this time for directory on server put suse/9.3
10) click ok

When I added those sources I moved them above the CD source so that they are searched first, I did this because they will have the most up to date software. To move them up:

1) select them in the sources menu
2) click the up button

After you added those repositories or if you already have them then:

1) stay in YaST
2) Click Software Management
3) do a search for mplayer
4) click the box to select it for download/installation
5) click accept

if mplayer does not come up in the search after you do these steps post back and we can assist you further. Good luck.

hey guys after i add the breman repository

how do i specify to update from there

and not from suse instlltion cd ? thanks

AdamCo 12-07-2005 12:45 PM

crazez;

I haven't personally found a way to specify where to update from besides moving the repositories I added to the top like I described above, or you can turn off the other sources of installation then do your software search and then turn the others back on. doing this, yast will only search the sources that are turned on. There may be an easier way, but I don't know of it.

To turn off the other sources:
1) open Yast
2) Click installation source
3) select the source you want to turn off
4) Click the enable/disable button
5) repeat on all sources you'd like to turn off
6) click finish

after that go into the software management and search for the package you want. After you have done that, you can go back into installation sources and turn them all back on by following the same directions as above.

adam no...it made sense to refresh the repositories though like you adviced me to..

and disable the installation cd option..but ...unfortunately it did not work....

i read somewhere..you must go to DNS server..is that correct ?

in other words, when i try to download anything from that repository or any other one it doesnot let me , it asks me for the suse installtion cd...
