Mplayer/Lame on 64 bit

Hi

I've been trying to get mplayer going on 64 bit Suse. I tried the 64bit packages from Pacman but yast crashes on install. When I tried to install from source with --unable-gui it gave me this strange "need x11 support" message. But ,of course, X11 is installed. Do I need some different libraries?

Regular mplayer installed from source but it not working very well.

Anybody have any thoughs on getting it working right?

Or ,alternativly, getting the codecs that mplayer uses working in kaffine/xine?

to get xine working, kick out the xine packages from SuSE. Because of legal matters, these packages do not support the use of external codecs like divx or the win32 codecs. Install libxine and build the win32codecs and divx source rpms from packman for x86_64. Now you will be able to play nearly all videos (like with mplayer).
You don't have to reinsall kaffeine. You might consider updating to the latest version.

thanks

Tried it out but now those packages won't install right either.

I'm thinking that 64bit is not yet quite ready for prime time yet. I was expecting it to at least be really fast like Mandrake's 64 was and hopefully less buggy. But there is no real discernable imporvement and a bunch of problems.
