more 10.0 usb woes

I recently re-installed 10.0 OSS on my system, getting rid of my 3GB windows partition completely. After a bunch of little issues that I figured out myself, I am completely stumped. I installed from a USB cdrom drive, and that worked fine. In the partiton options, it detected the two USB drives that are connected to my laptop. Then after the install is completed, I look at "My Computer" it shows all my USB devices...but when I click them

Code:

Could not mount device.
The reported error was:
mount: /dev/sda1 is not a valid block device

this is the output of dmesg (this message is the only one...repeated over and over again, with slight variances):

Code:

SFW2-INext-DROP-DEFLT IN=eth0 OUT= MAC=00:40:45:25:6e:0d:00:11:20:a7:dc:1d:08:00 SRC=172.137.54.86 DST=68.10.145.185 LEN=48 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=114 ID=45696 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=4092 DPT=6346 WINDOW=8192 RES=0x00 SYN URGP=0 OPT (0204055001010402)

Any ideas?

you have a usb card plugged in now? do you have a mount point for the usb? unplug the usb and plug it back in. then type dmesg. Also make sure your /mnt matches fstab

The results from dmesg are network messages.

since I can't edit my post... :P

lsusb shows nothing at all:

Code:

# lsusb
#

and lspci:

Code:

Did you try unplugging and plugging the usb stick?
try this at a prompt

# lsscsi

seifenblasen 01-09-2006 08:15 PM

lssci = same as lsbusb

here's some stuff from the very top of dmesg:
Code:

replugging does nothing at all.
