monitor jumping around?

I'm having a perplexing monitor problem.I've got a generic 15 inch crt monitor.I'm using nvidia 5200 with suse 9.1 everything got the 3dlibs and all installed.no problems there.however when I try and run games like the action games or half life etc I run into proble,s.the lines all become horitontal and the picture is completely blurry.unreadable.I can't for the life of me figure this out.

on what I think is an unrelated note kde always asks me to set my x and y configuration.how do I find that and what would it be?thanx to anyone who can help with this.

Ok. This sounds silly, but it's true. You set the x and y monitor settings by measuring your monitor screen with a ruler in millimeters. It's so GIMP or other graphics programs can accurately display a measured size for your pictures.

If you don't care about the accuracy of the values in the graphics programs, just enter 320 mm X 240 MM if you have a standard monitor. That's a 4 x 3 aspect ratio.

For the horizontal lines, your video card is running at higher refresh rate or resolution than your monitor will support. Make sure you know your monitor's capabilities are matched in your Sax2 configuration utility.
