Modem Intel 537ep in Suse 9.3

I've just installed Suse 9.3 in my computer. It works really great. It detected my WinModem intel 537ep...... I was impressed!!! The only problem is that i cannot connect to internet because i don't know which dev is using the modem (the configuration doesn't let me choose). How can i know????? Now i'm in windows....... I tried installing the Driver but as the kernell is 2.6.11 it didn't work. But as the modem was detected, i guess it should work. It just says it's modem0

Thanks

Hey Gonto,

Had this problem myself. Had to download the latest driver version from the Intel webpage and tried to install (uninstalling the one included on the SuSE disc from YaST first, and deleting /dev/modem and /dev/537ep).

It wouldn't install however - I eventually figured out that this was because I was running a 64-bit kernel, which doesn't seem to be supported by the driver. I installed the 32-bit kernel and the driver installed fine - the modem is /dev/modem, which is a symbolic link that points to /dev/537ep. I ran the modem config in YaST and it configured and worked fine (although I had to configure the modem as 'Other', as when I tried to configure the detected 'Intel 537ep modem' it threatened to install the SuSE driver which I knew didn't work).

I now have another problem with the modem, which I'm about to post as a new thread, but maybe you can try the above?

I can't install the Drivers from Intel bacause they can't be installed in my kernel (they can be installed in kernells 2.6.9 and below). That's why i was surprised that the modem was detected by Suse. Anyhow, i think it actionly didn't detect the modem bacause it doesn't work...........
I guess i will have to compile an older kernell with oldconfig
