Modem Instead Of Network

My Suse Pro 9.2 setup defaults to trying to hook up to the internet via the computer's 10/100 network card. How do I get it to use my external modem (on COM1) instead?

Also, does anyone know where I can find a list of Linux-friendly ISPs?

Thanks.

as for your first question... you need to configure a dialer such as kppp or wvdial
(man kppp or man wvdial)
as for the second question, any straight isp that doesn't require proprietary software should work (stay away from like aol, msn)
