manage yast sources (philosophy)

Hi to everyone this is a question regarding the philosophy of yast sources.. I am not really sure i know how they work. I have read the sticky topics about yast sources but i have decided to create a new thread cause i want to understand how yast sources do work.

All this time i was adding sources that users of this forum suggested me... The problem i had all this time was that packages were added and removed from the available package list.

Once week ago i have tried to installe some packages but soon i faced some dependencies problems cause some packages should have been installed. I have searched to Yast for those packages but i couldnt find them.. I hve tried to find some yast sources that include the packets i wanted but i didnt manage to find some.

a) How do u search for a yast repository that contains the packages u need? I know rpmfind.net but there i can only find rpm packages (and not sources) and usually no packages for suse 10!!

b)I have tried to install gtk2-devel ( that packages was available in my yast) but i have faced some dependency probs again. The gtk2-dev packages need XFree86-devel package but this one wasnt available to my yast sources!!!!! I cant understand why some packages are available to the list when they cant be installed cause of dependency problems. How can i solve this dependcy problem? Where can i find a source including the missing packet?

c)What happens with packages that can be found in different repositiories with different versions? What if system selects the newer package? I think this sould lead to dependency problem in the future.

d)As u can understand i have completely misunderstanding of how yast sources work and dont know how to use them. The last few days i am fighting against dependencies of unavailable packets!! I am losing this war
HELP

A), Would be nice, but you either have "Search" or "Installation Sources" a hybrid would be nice

B), Google or check the repository list on Novell's site. But there is no way to say "I want to search multiple repositories for the software xxxx

C) I am not sure I understand where you are heading with this rant, but I upgrade from several repositories, and I tend "on some applications" always install the newest version, and never have dependancy problems, and wouldn't expect too.

D) Post your dependancy errors. Make sure you have a repository for the SuSE Installation and Non-OSS Installation Sources.
