Question Losing name server info upon reboot

Each time I reboot my system (twice now), I lose my name server info and have to go into Yast (Network Services -> DNS and Hostname -> Name Servers and Domain Search List) and fill my router's info into the name server 1 field. If I reboot, this field will be blank again. Of course, this means that I can't surf the internet or anything like that until this space is filled in properly.

This problem first appeared after suspending my computer (I meant to shut it down, but I wasn't watching where I was clicking! ). I don't know if this is the root cause of the problem.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Have you tried putting the address of your nameserver in /etc/resolv.conf?

Something like
Code:
nameserver 123.456.7.89
search com

I just checked my resolv.conf, and it's already in there.
Thanks for giving it a shot, though! I'm already completely stuck on this one.

You know, you can have more than one nameserver address in resolv.conf? Maybe try one of the public servers as a second address line -- might be worth a shot (and did you try resetting the router just for drill?)

Thank you very much for the help! I did as you recommended, but resetting the router and adding another nameserver to the resolv.conf didn't help in this case (the file would still be blank every time I'd reboot).

I have no idea what could be doing this, as I'm still well-entrenched in the linux learning stage.

I did get past this problem by putting the necessary information in the resolv.conf and then changing the permissions so it can't be modified. There's probably a far better way to do it (not so "brute force" like this), but it worked for me in the meantime!

Nope... scratch that! It didn't work either! I've still got a case of the mysterious blank resolv.conf every time I reboot.
