Angry Longin problems

dear all,
this is the 7th time suse 10 is qutting on me. yesterday, i had installed yahoo messenger and on starting it just froze. I had o force kill th application but i accidentally force killed the task bar in the process .upon reboot , i had entered my username and password the system returns me back to the login screen - no message . the password is right and there is no login falied message, when i try failsafemode i can login and i get the command prompt but when i typ KDE, i get a message that says x server not ..someting.
to be frank i am almost done with suse and linux in general - were it not for this forum i would have gone back to windows.
Further ; i would like to know if there is a usb driver for trust spy@am 300S somewhere ?
Now is it possiblle to recover my desktop without a clean reinstall?

thanks for your time

Have a look here:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...70#post1965570

It seems to happen quite often, but we still didn't figure out why. But it seems to help to remove some hidden files from the users homedirectory.

What support do you want for your camera? If it supports USB storage then you can easily download your pictures from it. I have a Trust 820 PowerC@M ZOOM.

Dear Absik and Worksman,
Thanks for your reply ! well being a newbie the link given looks too complex..i dont knowhow to delete files from a command prompt and stuff like 'runlevel 1,2...' is way above my head.
I will try to brush up on my knowledge before i start digging again. Meangwhile ;i guess i will just have to reinstall Suse10 for now....
By the way Worksman i use a trust 300 s camera and when i plug it in it suse does not read it automatically.
thanks for your time folks...

Don't reinstall. It's not so complicated to work on command line.

Try the following:
- switch to text console with Ctrl+Alt+F2
- login as root
- type 'cd /home/<your username>' (changes to your users homedirectory, type without the ')
- type 'rm .DCOP*' (this will remove some files that have been mentioned in the above thread)
- switch back to the graphical login screen (Alt+F7) and try to login
If it still doesn't work, do the above procedure again, this time deleting the KDE settings:
- type 'rm -R .kde' (the -R option is required since this is a directory, not a file)
Again, switch back to graphical and try again. Continue to delete the following files until it works:

.Xauthority
.ICEauthority
.kderc

Deleting these files cannot harm your system more than it already is.

Can you produce that output again and post it?
It may reveal something...

There is a big section in the SuSE-10.0 Startup manual (starting on page 238) as to what one can do if the login is successful but Gmone or KDE desktop fails. And in the same SuSE-10.0 manual (starting on page 235) there is advice as to what one can do if a User can not loggin (username and password not accepted).
