locked myself out whilst configuring network...

hi folks,

i have been trying a few distros lately and was on cloud nine after completing a suse10/gnome install - it seems a really nice environment.

anyway, after an hour or so trying to get my wireless internet connection up and running, which i have managed under knoppix

(wg11v2 usb wireless dongle using a windows driver through ndiswrapper and connecting to a netgear dg834g adsl modem/router)

i finally struck gold and was on the net. however, after 5 or 10 mins of surfing the whole system ground to a halt, eg no internet at all, and i tried a reboot.

then i find that i get to a login, and go in as root, but the system just hangs. i can see if i reboot that the system hung at the time it was configuring the wireless network wlan0.

i have since been back into knoppix and am back on the net, so i know this is possible (under debian based distros at least).

what I _think_ has happened is that i have put some stupid settings in my /etc/resolve.conf file and actually got on the net by using the gui walk thru's in suse. then when i reboot, it hangs due to a dodgey resolve.conf file... this is what i hope.

is there anyway i can get into suse/gnome and not bother with network settings until i am in, so that i can get past this hanging problem?

my terminal skills are still so rudimentary that i can;t get anywhere from the suse(failsafe) boot option on my own

many thanks in advance if you are kind enough to look at this for me,

dan

During the grub screen, press F2 (I think) for more boot options, then type init 1 to boot single-user without networking. That should bypass starting the interfaces and give you a chance to fix whatever you broke.
