Laptop Brightness
Hey, this should be either a quick how-to or not possible. I want to lower the brightness of my laptop's screen. Its a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 and I don't think I can do it on the laptop hardware itself, so I need the way to do it within SuSE 9.2. Thanks a bunch for any help in advance! -Bill

Silly question, but have you tried key combinations? I have a newer Toshiba Satellite and those things for me are hardware controlled. If you have a Toshiba BIOS, and do be aware that many Toshiba's have a Phoenix BIOS and not one native to Toshiba, you can install fnfx to take care of that. In SuSE, if you go into YaST to add/remove, you'll find that two Toshiba utilities are there for you to install automatically.

Well, I have tried the ol' random fn key combos and what not, but without luck. I have toshutils installed, but was unaware there was a second one. I will look into fnfx as I think I have a native Toshiba BIOS. Thanx a bunch

Does fnfx work for you? If not, could be a Phoenix BIOS. (I only mention this because I recently discovered mine was not Toshiba.) Look for "toshiba utilities" in YaST software.

Yes, fnfx works, and gives me full functionality with the fn keys. Now I need to find out what key combo gives me brightness control!

If you use KDE, you can adjust the gama through the Configure Desktop -> Display -> Monitor Gama dialog.
You can also add a line like this to the Monitor section of xorg.conf: Gamma 0.90 0.90 0.90 |
