KWin crashes way too often

I upgraded to KDE 3.5.2. I think this might have been a problem since 3.5. I have seen KWin crashes in 3.4, but 3.5.2 just crashes way too often.

Any idea what's going on?

I'm not sure. I'll try to make note of it next time by viewing the backtrace. Although I think this error prevents me from viewing the backtrace (all buttons and windows break on this error).

No backtrace available. It says SIGSEV 11 error, but that seems to be for all KDE crashes.

I notice that it usually crashes when I'm doing things kind of fast in KDE. For example, it will stall trying to open one folder, and then I'll try to open something else. I don't know what is causing it to be so unstable though.

What driver are you using? do you have compositing enabled?

What driver would you be referring to? I have no idea what compositing is. How would I check/correct this?

I was referring to the graphics driver. What card and driver. Are you using Nvidias drivers or the free ones, or ATI. Compositing is part of X and you can tell if its active by doing this command

xdpyinfo | grep Composite

If it comes back to you saying composite then its enabled, if it simply returns with nothing then its not enabled.
