KVim mail agent has emptied my mailbox!

i gave my email address and password and the host name of my email server...and all other required information to the Mail Transfer Agent in Suse 9.2 ( Control System--> network services-->mail transfer agent) assuming that it is a mail client like Outlook in Windows...but the next time i check my email in my original mailbox i found that they are all gone.
finally i could find my emails in KVim in this file : /var/spool/mail/habib (habib is my user name) .
but the format of my emails here is such that i can not use them easily. i can not download the attachments of my emails either.
is it possible to get my emails back to my original mailbox? it is my mailbox from my university mail account: myname @ student.tudelft.nl
