KMyMoney 0.8 Freezes on Launch in OpenSuSE 10.2

I have been running OpenSuSE 10.2 for about a year now and recently had some problems with KMyMoney. I can no longer get this program to launch. After I click the icon to launch it, I get the KMyMoney Tip Window (which freezes) and I also get the KMyMoney main screen to launch in the background (it is also frozen). I have to manually kill the application/process using the terminal prompt.

I know that I can install the latest version of KMyMoney (0.8.7), but I want to know why my bundled (with OpenSuSE 10.2) installation failed. I have not made any changes to my OS or installed any new hardware in months. I simply use OpenSuSE for common tasks that do not involve any system modifications or development.

Any ideas as to why KMyMoney no longer works?

If you open a terminal window and run the application (i.e. type kmymoney from a command prompt) what errors does it report?

I typed "kmymoney" in the command prompt and the program launched and froze. There were no errors or other messages reported/listed.

OK, try "kmymoney -n". This will launch kmymoney without trying to open your last opened file. If it launches successfully, then you probably have a corrupted data file.

"kmymoney -n" worked out well. Wow, I would have rather had KMyMoney not work than my data file. This was an important file. What can I do to recover the data that I potentially lost?
