KDETV Black screen Problem --Fixed (Suse 10.3 32 bit) Win TV card

Hi all
After getting sound working I turned my attention to an old Hauppage WIN TV card (878 Bttv type). This would tune perfectly and give sound but no picture even after installing the latest Nvidia drivers for my video card.

I use this card a lot as it has Video / Sound IN as well as a TV tuner so I can watch Satellite (SKY) TV via a Video sender / receiver combination.

However the solution was relatively simple believe it or not -- Simply DISABLE XGL.

As root run gnome-xgl-switch--disable-xgl.Reboot (not sure if that's necessary - we are not in Windows) but I did a reboot in any case.

You can run the above command on GNOME or KDE -- I am using a KDE desktop.

Hey Presto --TV card works perfectly.

Hope this quick little fix saves a few hours of googling for some of you.

I think you can still get desktop effects even if you disable xgl -- but I'd much rather have my TV card working than looking at "Wobbly Windows" etc etc.

Cheers

-K
