Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

Have been using SuSe with kde for a year and have been quite happy with it except for konqueror browser which has problems with several web sites I need to access. I put firefox on honey's windoze machine and it accesses these web sites just fine. I bought SuSe 9.3 mainly because it comes with gecko based firefox. I'm not very linux savvy so I would like my installation choices to give me the most problem free and seamless setup. What would be my best choices considering firefox is necessary and kde is preferred among: kde and gnome; thunderbird, kontact, or evolution? OpenOffice is my main use after the web.
change the filter to "Search" and do a search for firefox. It will show up on the left. Check it and install. YaST will handle all the dependencies for you. Easy.
You don't have to, but you may want to replace the konqueror quick launch button with one for firefox. This is not hard, but must be done yourself. Just right click on the button, and select "Remove". Then right click in the empty space, and select: Panel Menu-> Add-> Application Button-> Internet-> Web Browser-> Firefox.
