KDE hangs when starting in openSuse 13.1
Hi everyone,
I have a minor problem with OpenSuse 13.1. When KDE is starting, it seems to hang for a while when the KDE splash screen is displayed. Eventually KDE starts successfully but it does take quite a long time. It seems to hang first for around 50 seconds when the 'globe' is displayed. It then hangs again for around 40 seconds when the 'K' is displayed. Then the screen fades to black for around 15 to 30 seconds and finally the KDE desktop is displayed. There are no errors shown in /var/log/boot.log or in /var/log/Xorg.0.log. I would be grateful for any ideas regarding why this is happening and how I can address the problem. With thanks James. |
How are you connection to the net ?
suse defaults to using "ifup" and "ifdown" for the network in yast set it to use "network manager" kickoff / computer / yast then click on "network settings" in the top box is a checkbox |
Thanks John. This has greatly reduced the time between selecting 'openSUSE 13.1' in GRUB and being able to log in, but I still have a long delay after the globe and after the K.
Any further ideas would be appreciated. |
for suse see this older wiki page
http://lizards.opensuse.org/2012/07/...2-second-boot/ it is still good there is no more "bootvis" it is now built in Code:
