KDE 3.5 - Only ROOT can read built in SD / MMC card reader
Hi Everyone
Just a little (easily fixed bug) for some laptops if you have one of those built in SD / MMC etc card readers.
The My computer Icon recognizes the device but when I try and access it as a User rather than Root I get some weird message from HAL and cannot access the device.
However to get round this simply create a directory as root (MD /mnd/sdcard)
now again as root
mount -t auto -o rw /dev/mmcblk0p1 /mnt/sdcard
works fine. The SD cards I'm using are 1 and 2GB cards formatted FAT32.
If you use ntfs then mount the file type as ntfs-3g - this file type allows READ AND WRITE access to ntfs. It works perfectly on 10.3 and 11.0 Ensure you have the ntfs mount package installed --default on 11.0, but you have to select it on 10.3. NTFS read / write (FUSE) is already standard in the kernels, it's only the NTFS mount utility you need to install (10.3)
Cheers
-K
