Hi iain.ross
SUSE Linux 9.2 release is no longer supported after 2 years.
So you can only update it until the last updates of each package.
You can still find them at the
Apt repositories with the repos for packman and guru and others.
But concerning the Gnome and KDE repos they are no longer available for that release version AFAIK.
What you can do is to compile/install the new KDE 3.5.5 version yourself.
You have 2 choices:
1) use the konstruct utility from the
KDE site
which will downloads and compiles automatically all or parts of the last KDE release from the sources tarballs.
2) use the source rpm files (files with the .src.rpm extension) from the
KDE repo for SUSE 9.3
and compiles/installs them yourself using the command:
rpmbuild --rebuild <src rpm file name>
This is better than to use directly the binary rpm files for the SUSE 9.3 on your 9.2 release.
But I must say it's possible but not so easy to do.
Personally I used both the methods successfully on my machine though with some tweakings sometimes. But it's feasible.
If you are patient, you can try.
Yes try it!
Edit: I want to add that it is preferable, even compulsory, to do the KDE compiling/installing in another WM (fluxbox, xfce, gnome, ...) or under runlevel 3 (in a text console log in), and to have the rpm files of the current KDE version available, in case of having to reinstall the original KDE.
