Is there a way to upgrade to the KDE 3.4 kernel from this distro. I have seen tutorials on upgrading to KDE 3.4 from SuSE 9.2, but I haven't seen a tutorial for SuSE 9.0 Pro.
I attempted to download the upgrades, and I was successful in figuring out how to do it. But before the upgrade, YaST found a whole list of dependancy problems. I did not feel comfortable telling it to ignore all of these dependancies, so I did not complete the upgrade.
What could be the cause of the dependency problems? Or, is this normal? Should I ignore the dependencies and conflicts?
Maybe there is something I must do to my current system first.
Some dependency issues are OK. Some packages do not exist anymore, others have been merged. If you are unsure, post the list of dependencies and we'll have a look together.
ignore dependencies at your peril.
The easiest way to upgrade KDE is to use YAST.
If you need instructions on how, just post here and I'll take you though the steps.
Yes, I would love instructions for a 9.0 Pro user. As I said, I found instructions and followed them. They worked perfectly, except for the dependency problems.
I don't see why there would be dependency problems. Would these be eliminated if I upgraded my SuSE distro?
As I told you before, it is KDE that has changed. For example if you have KDE 3.2 installed on your system, you might use the package kdepim3-organizer. This package does not exist in KDE 3.4 anymore (it has merged with the kdepim3-base package), so it will not appear in the list to be updated. However, it will remain on your computer and depend on other KDE components that will be updated. This creates the dependency problem (even on my system, where I updated from KDE 3.3 to 3.4). But it is not really a problem, since you can safely delete the package that creates the message. Know what I mean?

Thanks for the help so far. Here is the list of dependency conflicts. I don't know if these are something that I should ignore or not. Maybe you can help determine which ones might cause a problem if I ignore them. Sorry, the list is in French, because the computer I am working on is in French, but the applications should still be readable (or maybe you speak a little French--I hope). I can provide an English list, but that would take me some time to do.
Thanks,

Before you run the update:
1. delete 'kbarcode' unless you are using a barcode reader
2. delete 'kdenetwork3-mail' because its functionallity is merged with kdepim3
3. delete 'kdepim3-organizer' (same reason)
4. delete 'kgpg' because this comes with kdeutils3
5. install libieee1284 from packman.iu-bremen.de (directory suse/9.0), maybe sane as well
6. delete 'cryptplug'
Now run the update again.
7. ignore confilict with kdebase3-SUSE. This package makes the SUSE-look and is not available for the update, but the old works as well.
