This is what it says. Why will this not burn the iso image? It passes the checksum. SuSE is really starting to get on my nerves. Does anyone have any idea why I cannot burn anything, not just this.

Thumbs down here here!!

Have to say .. I am fast approaching EVILBILL's answer ... I have struggled and struggled with this ... tried everything from different kernels, diff' cdrecord versions (including beta) diff' K3B versions from various repositories ... scoured for hours and hours on the forums, ruined countless cds

CONCLUSION:
1/ cdrecord is seriously lame (no mp3 encoding pun intended)

2/ K3B on suse 10 with kde 3.5.4 is rendered totally useless.

3/ Kubuntu will replace it for me as soon as
I pick up a dvd!

Sounds like a permissions problem to me.

I agree with rkelsen .. sounds like a permision issue.. What groups are you a member of?

As for my impression SuSE w/ Gnome > Ubuntu, SuSE w/ KDE > Kubuntu

But hey.. that is just my impression.

And how is K3B totally useless on SuSE 10?

Unhappy Permissions

Hi rkelsen .. yes I have changed the permissions; to be exact I have taken several steps in this area , taking full ownership , joining and tricking-up my permissions in 'burning' group , going back to all basic permissions ... chmod-crazy for days on end ... all to no avail!

Hi EclipseAgent ... I will have to explore the change to kubuntu further in order to really judge ... but my judgment on K3B is fair .. I have looked through many forums. K3B/cdrecord issues abound (error 255; will burn nothing..; permissions; cdrecord license; qt versions etc etc) and there are scant and often NO definitive answers; I see pages of debugging output posted by the weary, hapless user on their last hope of a solution ... followed largely by NO replies/answers.

What are K3B and cdrecord good for if you cannot burn a single disc .. oh, and yes my box is dual-boot, the burner works perfectly with Nero and Deepburner in XP.

Have you tried to uninstall K3B and install from a different repository?

Red face versions!

Hi EclipseAgent, in short yes ...

0.12.3-9 on the opensuse dvd
0.12.9-1.guru.suse100
0.12.10-1.guru.suse100
0.12.17.3-1.pm.0 from packman (currently installed)

Along with ...

cdrecord 2.01-7 on the opensuse dvd
cdrecord-dvd 2.1 (not sure where from!)
cdrecord-prodvd-2.01b31-i686-pc-linux-gnu from cdrecord repository
any of these can be selected in the K3B settings

All of these have failed in equal measure!

Try this (as root):

# chmod 4111 /usr/bin/cdrecord

Then log back in as a normal user.
