k3b error when ripping CDs to flac in Suse 9.3

After upgrading to 9.3, I can no longer rip CDs to FLAC format in k3b. Ripping to OGG or WAV files works, and I can encode the WAV files to FLAC from the command line. Here is the output from the k3b error window:

Devices
-----------------------
TEAC CD-W512SB 1.0C (/dev/sr0, ) at [CD-R; CD-RW; CD-ROM] [Error] [SAO; TAO; RAW; RAW/R96R]

System

K3b Version: 0.11.22cvs
KDE Version: 3.4.0 Level "b"
QT Version: 3.3.4

I get the same error with both the SCSI & the IDE drive for all the CDs I've tried. Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas on what might be causing the problem?

I did a clean install of 9.3, and now k3b works on some CD's, but not others. I'm still trying to figure out if there is a pattern to which disks it doesn't like. Any ideas?

If you know how to do it from the command line, does it really matter if k3b doesn't always work? I just use CDparanoia and then oggenc or flac.

Not necessarily, but I already have all the k3b settings the way I like them. The interface is nice, and it does a good job of managing file & directory names, flac tags, m3u play lists, etc. I could do it all with Perl & shell scripts, which I use for some tasks k3b doesn't handle, but k3b is much easier. It turns out the problem was with overwriting files. It would error out if the flac output file was already in existence. I was re-ripping some CDs that had skips & pops in them. My IDE CD drive appears to be a little flaky so I hooked up my old SCSI one to re-rip the problematic discs. Anyway, once I added the "-f" option to the flac command everything worked fine. The build from 9.2 must have had this as the default, while the build from 9.3 did not. Easy to fix, but it took a while to track down because the error message didn't give me any clues on where to look.
