Just switched to SuSE, got a Qeustion
 

I I just switched to SuSE. I like it so far, it's nice and clean and pretty simplified, but I do have a question to get me up and going for everyday use (for me anyway). I like the bleeding edge stuff so I want to get xorg and KDE 3.3.1 on here, though I have found a few tuts for that already. One major concern I have is that I am used to having the network update systems like apt-get and the RPM thing that Mandrake has, and I don't know is SuSE's YaST is a system similar to those. If it is, I would like to know how I can set-up the file mirrors for it, and maybe some suggestions for mirror sites.

YAST is the package management system, specifically Yast Online Update (YOU). If you point it to the ~/current directory on the mirrors, you get your bleeding edge linux. There should be a module in YAST for Online Update configuration. Unfortunetly, I'm at work on our windows boxes, so I can't point you to it any closer than that.

you should have gotten 9.2, that has xorg and kde3.3 ;). but anyway, if you go in the control center->yast2 modules->software->change installation directory you can enter any ftp/http source you wish and then install programs through the add/remove programs. it's as simple as that.

Apt-get is also available for SuSE. There is also a GUI based version called Synaptic that runs through your window manager. I personally use Yast for my online updates, but for new software, etc. I like synaptic.
