Problem 1: Modem
Yup, I have one of those Alcatel modems... I've just switched from MEPIS to SUSE and the method I used to connect to the internet doesn't work... this is the log file...

2. I was very pleased that the installer detected that my monitor is a Dell m782p and that my graphics card is an Intel 82865G. It has also enabled DRI on this card (another thing which I have never been able to do!) and is working fine. The only problem is that the display is warped, it's tall and skinny! Any suggestions?

Nope, sax2 didn't do the trick. Nothing happened when I tried resizing using it.

I am still using 9.3, but when my display was doing that it was a driver issue. I would normally do a google search for you, but I am on limited time right now. I know that the driver should be handled by the kernel considering the graphics card is integrated into the motherboard, but something sounds wrong.

But at least you can bet that the issue is driver related.

For the display problem, try going to a text console (ctrl+alt+f2) and logging in as root.

Type hwinfo --monitor

This should give you all the settings for your monitor, including horizontal and vertical sync ranges.

Make a note, and stick the bits into the relevant portions of the monitor configuration in SaX2.

My monitor did this with both SuSE 9.3 and 10.0

For SuSE 9.3 it was a result of the graphics card driver. I think this problem in SuSE 10 is a result of the horizontal and vertical refresh rates. SaX2 did not accurately set them for my monitor. I resolved this by going into SaX2 and setting my monitor as VESA 17" @ 85 hz. Then set the refresh rates for the horizontal and vertical according to the manufacturers specifications. This should allow you to adjust the screen in the test server when you save your new settings. Fine tune the monitor with the adjustments built into the monitor itself.

This worked fine for me.

You need to install some firmware (instructions on the site), but this can be done automatically by running the auto config script to save yourself a bit of typing!
