You should try this on console:
echo $PATH

this line add the path to java:
export PATH=/usr/local/java/bin/:$PATH

You may need to change to path

This worked for me:

I'm using Firefox 1.5 with jre1.5.0_01, but I shouldn't think there's any difference in locations - you'll simply need to change _01 to _06.

Open a terminal

cd /opt/firefox/plugins
sudo ln -s /usr/java/jre1.5.0_01/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
Supply root password

Start Firefox
Edit/Preferences/Content
Check Enable Java and Enable JavaScript buttons
Close and restart Firefox

I think that the problem with azureus is that the script which launches it has a hardcoded path
to java ... try editing it and making it point to the correct location.

luck!

Thanks for the responses. I solved the problem. I had earlier copies of java and firefox. I deleted the old copies and linked the plugin directories and it works.

Thanks again
