is there a way to an xp home comp see a linux suse comp in a network

Hi,
I have a router running through windows xp home on one computer and a second computer running linux suse 10.1 which I would like to link up for file sharing, gaming etc. I have managed to set up broadband for both computers through the router. both machines have a network card.
Is there a script that I can use to make the windows machine think it is seeing another windows machine or indeed is this the way to achieve this. is this even possible..I think it can be done the other way around i.e linux to xp.but am not sure of that either
I have limited knowledge but have started to explore m.c. a little.
Any help would be appreciated.:newbie:
