Is Suse 10.0 sound broke big time?
Suse 10, no sound in XMMS neither in Amarok. Is Suse 10 sound broke big time? This distros are all scrwed up. One distro one thing work, on the other distro don't, such is XMMS in Suse 10
si broke, but it works just well in Mandriva. The same with Amarok. They don't play at all in Suse 10, do I have to go back to Mandriva? Multimedia is BIG in WIndows XP, I don't see how these distros are going to compete agains WIndows if the multimedia is all screw up! xmms don't even let me add the songs. Amarok doesn't even make a beep!!! |

What happens if you go into control center and use the "test sound" function? What happens if you go to a shell prompt and cat a wave file to /dev/audio or /dev/dsp? |

By the way, thank you for your quick reply! |
You're welcome. :)
Anyhow, try running alsaconf again to see if you get any better results. Did you recompile your kernel so that you have one specific to your processor type? E.g., if you have a Pentium 4 vs. a Pentium M, or if you have a hyperthreading Pentium 4, or a dual Xeon, you will want to ensure that the kernel you are running supports the process/threading schedule features not to mention the full instruction set. Lastly, in the KDE control center, make sure that the sound system is configured with "realtime priority" selected. |
everything works for me, so it cant be totally broken :)

KimVette, Thank you for the reply. alsaconf got my sound! Now I can play wave files using the "play" command. But,,,, xmms don't play at all, neither amarok, any idea? xmms don't let me add the song to the song list. Amarok plays(it looks like it does) the songs very fast. But no sound on both! |
Did you install the multimedia packages through yast that allow you to play MP3 files?
|
Specifically these will get you going perfectly in xmms, xine, kaffine, etc.
