Is it possible to play mp3s on Amarok ?

After downloading the necessary codecs, I'm slowly making progress to get my system to play most multimedia. I was wondering if it's possible to use amarok to play mp3s?(realplayer doesnt offer enough features for me) If so, can someone tell how to do it and direct me to location of the source? Thanks

MP3 playback within amarok is defiantly possible, if not its entire reason for existence.

Depending on what backend your using ( gstreamer, arts, helix ) depends on what plugins you need. IF your using the gstreamer backend you need the gstreamer mp3 plug-in ( the mad plug-in if your wondering ). Also probably need the libs that plug-in relies on ( libmad, libid3tag following the example ).

Try doing an update with yast and installing the multimedia-option-packs 1 to 4. This I've heard fixed a lot of problems with Novell/SUSE and mp3 playback.

Amarok should have no problem playing .mp3 you can test using this:

amarok music_file.mp3

also try:

xmms musick_file.mp3

They are both better then RealPlay.

I have noticed that after doing an upgrade to amarok and some other components, amarok doesn't play MP3's. I don't know the reason exactly but I am not affected too much by it. I am using one of the many other audio players that come with suse. I also don't have that much time these days to play around and see whats the problem.

I will wait until there is a new update for amarok, and will see what happens after that.
