i've downloaded suse linux 9.2 pro and my internet connection isn't working
i've got cable internet and a router
computer configuration is
athlon 1200
380 ddr
where could i set up my internet..
please provide some useful details about your situaion:
what have you already tried?
what worked?
what failed?
what sites have you looked at?
what physcial connection type is there between modem and PC?
what does yast do?
what else?
i can assure you that the speed of your CPU won't affect your ability to use a cable modem
connect meaning ping? in that case you're probably not setting your gateway correctly. if your router does dhcp, you might prefer to let it dish out the details, and suse will set up the little bits like gateways for you automatically. otherwise, you presumably need to set your router IP as your gateway within Yast. i've never seen yast though, so can't say how.
I find that setting the network card as a static IP, say 192.168.1.10 and making sure the DNS settings supplied by my SP makes for the best solution.
Look under YAST/network devices/network card from within KDE, set the values and you should be OK.
I've spent loads of time fumbling around with just the sort of problem you have had only to find that by setting things manually solves the problem. Try it it might work for you.
