Installing 9.3 over serial console
I am installing Suse Linux 9.3 on a headless dual-Opteron system with a serial console talking to a minicom terminal emulator. There is no possibility for adding a graphics card to this system. The initial DVD boot and initial setup works fine, but when the installation process starts yast, it thinks my TERM is linux, which causes it to display almost unreadable screens (minicom has a vt102 emulator, which works fine loading 9.2, 9.1, 9.0, etc.).
My question is: Is there a good way to somehow tell yast to set its TERM to vt102 or some other appropriate serial terminal type during the initial installation boot screen, so that you can actually see the configuration information and setup questions? It seems that its probe to see what kind of terminal is attached is not working very well.
Any help appreciated.
