installing 10.2 and XP??? and jacklab

I just lost everything in windows after trying to remove fedora core 5. i couldnt get back into windows because something went wrong in grub. i have reinstalled XP after losing EVERYTHING . But the whole reason for me to get rid of fedora(which i loved) was to install suse 10.2 so i could try jacklab out. from my understanding you have to install 10.2, and then jacklab?? well i was just going to make sure 10.2 had some sort of bootloader so i can run windows also, because i could find anywhere that would tell me if it had a bootloader such as grub that was included in 10.2 installation package. any answers on any of this would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance

I think the first thing you should learn to do is: how to repair/fix your boot partition, or you may find yourself re-installing winblow$ again...and again...etc

I didn't know anything about jacklab until I read up on it. Seems to be a flavour of Linux tuned to provide a music production environment. It's already based on Suse.

What you need to know is will it happily co-exist with xp.

Most if not all flavours of Linux will share a drive with xp on it.

Upon install you will (or should) be asked if you want to keep xp. Again if installation is successful a dual boot environment will be created automatically.

I would strongly suggest you a) backup your data & b) defrag your drive before attempting installation.

Let me know how it goes, as a musician myself I have been looking for the opportunity to move away from the winblow$ platform and produce all my stuff in Linux.

Took this from the jacklab forum: But please take a note: you can't install "jacklab" this is the name of the project. What you install is an early public version of JAD (JackLab Audio Distribution) based on openSUSE 10.0

I think you'd be better off getting the answers you seek from their forum: http://forum.jacklab.net/

This is also worth a read: http://wiki.jacklab.net/index.php/Main_Page

Hope you get things going

if he had just booted to the XP CD and selected 'repair' then typed 'fixmbr' and rebooted it would of fixed the master boot record and XP would of worked fine.

If i want to reload linux fresh on a dual boot situation then i remove the linux partitions when in windows then boot to the windows cd to fix the mbr. Then its as tho linux was never there and you can reload with dual boot again.
