install problems v9.3 on presario 2145
I have been trying to install Suse 9.3 on my Compaq Presario 2145 notebook. I have previously ran Slackware, FC3, FC4, and Ubuntu without any installation problems.
When I try to boot CD #1, the system freezes on the first multilanguage welcome screen. I never even get a chance to enter boot options, or do a text mode install. I have trying installing from several different CD's that I have tested to work on other systems. I remember having similar problems with an older version, I had to boot from a v8 CD and then switch to the v9 cd for the installation. Is Suse just not compatible with my Presario, or is there something I can try to get the installer to boot and work? Any help or advise would be appreciated, I am really stuck here. Bob |
I was sucessfully running 9.2 on a Presario 915, but that doesn't mean anything. On previous versions, SUSE recommended to boot from CD#2 in case #1 makes problems. I don't know if this is still an option, but worth a try.

I think I found the problem with my Presario laptop. I had set the boot options to first look for a removable device (USB floppy) before looking for the CD-ROM and hard drive. I needed this option to update the bios to the current version.
Once I set the default boot order to CD-ROM, then hard drive, the install ran properly (running it now). Hopefully everthing will install correctly. Bob |
