Install network Brother Printer

Hi,

complete linux novice here !!

I have installed linux and have everything running except my networked Brother Printer. ( Seeing files on other pc's will be another post !!)

I can ping my printer so I know linux sees it.

Is there a guide to the steps needed to install a network printer on SUSE 10?

I am using a brother HL-1270n which is a network printer.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Sorted

To anyone interested:

Make sure CUPS Daemon is started

launch browser and enter:

http://localhost:631

To add printer click Manage Printers

Click "Add printer"

enter appropriate username/password

enter Name, location and description

Specify the port to use

For a networked printer tape the " LPD/LPR printer

Then I did "lpd:// (printer IP)/(Name of Printer

Then select Brother and continue

Select model and continue

Or use the Brother website to explain better what I just typed !!!

I can print from web and other apps.

I am a very happy bunny.

Now to share my files on my XP box !!!

Hi.

Try this: (click on links for pictures)

1) start YaST, select 'Printer', click 'Add'

2) Select 'Print Directly to a Network Printer'

3) Select 'Direct TCP Port Printing'

4) Enter the ip-adress or the hostname of your network printer

hopefully it works...
