Install kernel-source with YAST...

Hi.

With SUSE 9.1 is it possible to install the kernel sources with YAST?.

The current kernel that YAST wants to update to is:
kernel-default-2.6.5-7.111.i586.rpm

I need to have the kernel sources on the disk for other programs.
I think it is this: kernel-source-2.6.5-7.111.src.rpm

Question:
How do I use YAST to install the kernel sources?
I've made a new ftp mirror source installation directory but when I try and install the
sources they are not in the /usr/src/packages/SOURCES when finished.

Could someone please explain how to acomplish installing the
kernel sources with YAST?

Also, does one have to patch an older kernel 'first' before installing the
sources, or do you install the kernel sources first and then patch the
sources separately?

Are you saying you don't have a cd with the kernel-source on it? If this is the case, go to suse.com and pick a mirror close to you and download the rpm for kernel-source for 9.1. Then run YOU so it can update the sources to match the kernel you have.

Edit to answer one of your questions: kernel-source is in /usr/src not /usr/src/packages/SOURCES.

kernel-source-2.6.5-7.111.src.rpm is not the package you want! The 'real' source package is kernel-source-2.6.5-7.111.i586.rpm

All packages with 'src' are also source packages, but more complicated to use ;)

If you have 9.1 Personal, the kernel source is not on your medium, so you need to add a FTP server to your installation sources, or download the sources directly from the server. Since you are using an updated kernel, you'll find the correct sources in the 'update' directory of the server, not the standard path (eg. ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/update/9.1/rpm )
