install error message
hello,
I have just tried to install suse 9.something and the boot loader told me: "Nice Computer, you are trying to install 32-bit software on a 64-bit hardware" But i dont have 64 bit hardware (i dont think), so i tried to install opensuse 10.0 and i get an error messgage saying: "Boot loader, could not find kernel image: linux64" My processor is an amd sempron 3000+. I thought it was a 32-bit processor and it was certainly priced that way, and iirc boxed as 32bit. Am i wrong and its 64bit? I have just forced it to load 32bit kernel, will this cause me any problems? (its sitting at the language select screen now) |
You can freely install 32 bit software on 64-bit hardware.. All processors have x86_64 support. Which means they are 64 bit with 32 bit support.
By the way, are you using socket 754 ? with amd sempron ? If so.. then it is quite possible it is 64 bit. |
It is socket 754. It was a mobo + cpu bundle from local electronics shop. I think they have given me the wrong package, it was definetly supposed to be a 32bit system. I guess i should get the 64bit version. Thanks for the help
