Yeah... you are probably right. Well, I should get onto that this weekend. Right now I am playing around with kdeextragear 1,2,3, and libs. After I install 3.4 these will, no doubt, need to be recompiled.

The results shall be posted.

i upgraded 9.1 to 9.2 this morning and had to reinstall 3.4
it shouldn't take long since you're starting with 9.2 and Xorg.

You are really selling me on that transparency issue.

Yesterday I used apt to see the available 3.4 packages, and it should not take long to apply 3.4. I believe I would have to recompile Klamav and that is all. However, I have some other irons in the fire right now, and will not be able to get to it until tomorrow, maybe even sunday. I will post the results though.

Love that KDE.

i did mine from the dvd iso download.....and checked out the process on another machine first.you'll wind up downgrading kde if you already have the update installed.
never had to reset my b/g or login screen setup, all files made it through.karamba (not super karamba) needed to be re-installed along with my trash and kmenu icons.
all in all i'd say it went smooth as silk.

All of your personalized settings for KDE, and everything else, are stored in your home folder. I believe KDE is under.kde. Anyway, when I upgraded from 8.1 to 9.2, I just copied my home folder over and all of my settings were the same. The only differences would be if a package in 9.2 was not installed or no longer exists. Every once in a while I copy my home folder onto CD's as a backup. One of the nicest things about *nx OS's, easy backup.

Well after reading the woes of updating to KDE 3.4 I had second thoughts about it. However, I did try to use YaST and APT to see what would occur if the upgrade was implemented. It would seem, by both interfaces, that I have some dependency issues, so I am downloading the packages and building my own KDE tree to insure a clean installation. I guess it will take a little longer to slip into 3.4.

It is important to me that my system is running well with no errors or crashes.

I have also considered downloading the source RPMs and compiling my own 686 packages. This will take more time, no doubt, but it should increase performance. If the 586 packages of KDE 3.4 are installed then as I am building the 686 packages, and applying them, will they cause unwanted issues?
