i have everything update, but still flash won't work sometimes
 

e.g. this site is not working and telling me i need to upgrade my flash player. but there is no update...!?

im pretty sure thats a version 8 flash, and all adobe offers so far is version 7.

thank you for your answer! is it adobe that designs flash for linux? why does it take so long, hasn't flash 8 been out for windows for a very long time already?

yeah and there wont be a flash 8 for linux, but i have heard there will be a flash 8.5 for linux soon after the windows release. i dont know when that will be though.

Flash 9-Beta does work with that site. I am using it right now, also with SuSE 10.1, and see everything just fine. Note: You also have to allow javascript for that site to display properly.

What browser are you using, and in what directory did you place the plugin?

I have javascript enabled.
Using firefox 1.5.0.4
I put libflashplayer.so in /home/myuser/.mozilla/plugins
the flashplayer.xpt file is the same.
Do I need to replace this?

Just noticed it works in the Mozilla browser, though it is choppy. When using mozilla, it plays through something called Motherload, which I guess is something belonging to Comedy Central. Its nice in that in plays one video after another.

thanks for the upgrade! i guess i'll wait for the stable release. but it would be nice to be able to watch movie-previews on newspages and charts on my university's pages. :)

Try placing it here:

/usr/lib/browser-plugins/

This is where SuSE 10.x installs Flash 7, so if that was included with your initial install, there will already be a file called libflashplayer.so in there with a file size of 2154768. I suggest renaming that to something like libflashplayer.so.old in case something turns out to be bad about the beta.

Then cp version 9 of libflashplayer.so, the most recent update having a file size of 6753912, to /usr/lib/browser-plugins/

And see if that works.

Oh, and all this assumes you're running the 32 bit version of Firefox. Getting Flash to work with the 64 bit version is more complicated ... complicated enough I run the 32 bit version on my 64 bit installation in order to avoid the headache.
