I have a HP Laserjet 3055 set up as a standalone on the network with a static ip address. I have a network worktation running Suse 10.3 64 bit with a DHCP assigned ip address. The printer function works just fine, however I can't seem to get the scanner going. (Although, I did have it working at one point with an Ubuntu system.) The only documentation I see is for configuring locally with USB or SCSI. All the network documentation seems to reference is configuring the local machine as a scan server. The sane package is installed along with kooka and xsane.

The network scanner configuration is fixed. It took me a while to come back and post it, however it is quite simple. It has been tried on both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Suse 10.3 and 11.0.

• Go to yast control center
• Select software
• Select software management
• Install the cups, hplip, sane and xsane packages
• If these packages are already installed, update to the latest revisions for the latest drivers
• Return to yast control center
• Select hardware
• Select scanner
• The scanner configuration window will appear
• Select add driver
• Choose the appropriate driver
• Select the other box
• Choose the run hp-setup option
• A pop up window will appear, choose the network connection
• Press next
• Select the desired ip address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
• Select finish

Xsane should now work fine. Sorry, no command lines needed.

Isn't that punishable by somethine like stoning? (You may have to listen to all the Rolling Stones albums in one sitting). Isn't that supposed to be blasphemy - like saying "jehovah" or something of the sort? Haven't you been listening to the Microsoft sermons about how backward Linux is and how nothing can be done except through the holy and cryptic command line?

I'm using the same scanner model (HP 3055) over a network and was able to install it in a slightly convoluted way. I installed the device as a printer using the network printer utility first, then started xsane. It detected the scanner right away and works great. Haven't tried the autodocument feeder, but I'm just glad to get the thing working!
