HP 845C printer problems

I have an HP 845C Printer, I have been using this printer for years on my "other" PC.

I have just recently setup a Unix PC.

I want to share this printer with thie "other" PC

with the printer switch set to my Linux PC the printer installs and work just fine. However if I switch to the "other" PC and back again I can't print until I remove and reinstall the printer.

This situation also hapens if I boot my Linux PC and the switch is set tho the "other" PC.

This doesn't happen with the "other" PC.

How can I make the Linux printer setup "persistant" i.e. if the printer isn't present the setup won't loose it?

I assume the 845C is a USB printer? You need to read up on hotplug.
