how to web cam configuration in suse 10.1?????? plz help...... :(

Hey fellas, how yall doin. well me facing a new problem now hope sum 1 here will help me.
Im using suse 10.1 n mandriva 2006 and i have a web cam which is "super web cam by cyber multimedia" the model number is M6220 and driver details in windows is M6XXX-Hz. And i got the installation cd with the cam but its only installable on windows.
But since the windows is a waste of crap n shit so i wanted to config. my cam on linux, but that installation cd doesnt have the linux supported files in it. Well cam is a usb interfacable. i have connected it to the usb port and in the hardware details which is in the suse config. has detected it.
But the software or the driver for that cam isnt avail. to use it on linux.
So could any 1 suggest me where to download the driver for that cam and how to configure it on suse.
Plz provide detail explaination if possible.
thanks alot

i have a web cam which is "super web cam by cyber multimedia" the model number is M6220 and driver details in windows is M6XXX-Hz.
Linux determines what driver to load depending on the chipset if it's supported. So, first thing is to search LQ for threads about the Ming Jong M6220 Desktop PC Cam 300K (if that's the one, start at: http://www.mingjong.com.tw/eipe/fron...072&Part=M6220) and check the HCL. If nothing turns up then try to find out more about the chipset from the documents that came with it, the vendors site and searching teh intarweb. Even emailing the vendor asking for used chipsets does work sometimes. If nothing turns up then start by plugging in the device, use "lsusb" or "usbmodules" command to see if any modules got loaded and look at your syslog (most likely /var/log/messages) for messages about USB. If it returns any info like Vendor ID strings use that to search the Linux-USB device overview website. If you post (error)messages make sure you post *exact* ones.

i have connected it to the usb port and in the hardware details which is in the suse config. has detected it.
Well, then show the info instead of talking about it...

There are simple reasons why I asked you to post the information you have found here. It is your thread and your problem which means it should be you providing the requested info. There is no valid reason to let other people do your work. Next to that I am quite certain I did not ask you to email me the information. I try to reserve email for cases I decide need a second comms channel. Finally, with all due respect, please clean up your writing skills if you have the ability. Would definately make it easy to read. Thanks in advance.

Some suggestions

Hey coolguy:

What that guy is telling you is to help you. When using linux and asking for help, you have to be willing to do the majority of the legwork. It is like a huge insult to the knowledgeable people here when someone asks them to do everything for them. Most of the people that volunteer help here and in other forums are pretty busy people, and while they want to help, they expect those asking for help to be willing to do work and learn. If they aren't, then they won't get any help, plain and simple. Trust me on this.

Second piece of warmly put advice:

Please don't use grade school netspeak in linux type forums. The people that frequent these forums expect a certain level of intelligence and maturity from the posters. You want to start off sentences with a capital letter, not use silly netspeak words such as "u" for "you", try and use good grammar within some reason, separate sentances with two spaces, and proofread your posts before posting.

Your being sarcastic back to that guy just killed off your hope of getting help from him, and, sadly, from me. I myself am a n00b, but I might have been able to help you somehow anyways. I hope you learn from this.

Good luck and best of wishes!

Hmm, not really (at least for now though). I'm still subscribed to this thread so when anyone posts requested info I can help them help themselves with we're good to go.

You're a good sport. You know, more and more I see posts with this silly netspeak, and it is very annoying, but I try to not give such people a hard time, though it is a good idea to let them know that it doesn't look very good.

I only wish I could get my problem fixed tonight. I have been trying to figure it out for about 30 hours now, heh. Maybe he will post back and then we can help, but I hope he will clean up his typing and all. I guess he might not know how to, that could be possible as well.

sn9c1xx details

Hope you have accepted my apologies and wish to support me still.
The *only thing* I asked for is that you post the output you sent me so the information is shared for all to benefit from. You did not post it. So, either you don't understand, which is definately regrettable, or you don't want to, which is equally regrettable. As a final token of rudimentary (or should I say perfunctory?) attempt at helping you I'll post all the specs I can find, hint at the module needs the Video For Linux version 2 (V4L2) videodev driver, list some V4L2-based applications and finish off posting the information you did not post. And that's about all the constraint I can manage. You're on your own now. Good luck.
