how to uninstall nvidia drivers?

for some odd reason, everytime I install the 7667 drivers, and shutdown my system, it comes up with the old school login, grey background, and a xconsole stating that the kernel is tainted. I can login ok and it returns me to my kde system, but I can't restart or shutdown through the menu. i figure if I uninstall the drivers this problem would be solved, or maybe there's a workaround??

thanks guys.

After an unsuccesful installation of the driver version 1.0-7676, at the root shell in init3 I did
# sh NVIDIA-Linux*.run --uninstall
only to find out that in fact I still had the version 1.0-6629 installed!
Then I realised that I updated my kernel with yum to 2.6.12-1.1456.FC4. I didn't uninstall however the nVidia's driver before starting the kernel, as advised by fedorafaq.org.
Well, incidentally I used livna rpm for the job. I reckon that I could have used nVidia's run in the first place without livna's package.

I guess it depends on whether you want to really UNINSTALL the nvidia drivers, or just stop using them and return to the stock "nv" driver.

To do this latter thing, you don't have to uninstall. Just edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf, and change the line that says "nvidia" to "nv". You will have also likely deleted two lines from the modules section, for modules GLcore and dri - put these back. Then simply reboot, and you should be running the original drivers. The fact that you have an nvidia.ko module sitting around in your system may not be of great worry to you.

I have flipped back and forth between these two drivers this way frequently when I experience trouble installing new drivers. Hope this may help.
