One I've been trying recently is VLC.
No mucking about with lots of different codecs etc just install the package:)

Available from: http://www.videolan.org/

I am not sure how much has changes since 9.1, but to watch CSS encrypted DVD's, you need to get rid of the xine version of SuSE and install xine or mplayer from this address:

http://packman.links2linux.de/

You will also need libdvdcss. Its use is illegal in some countries. Information on how to get it is also available on the site above.

Didn't know about the above mentioned solution. Maybe you should try that first.

Quite impressed with VLC so far having tried mplayer and xine etc.
Much much easier to install than either and has a lot of other capabilities as well.

Of the others I would rate mplayer but as to why they dont bundle up the app, codecs and gui in one package who knows.
