how to make many changes in Yast for user?

I'm logged in as a regular user under Suse 10.0. After initial install, I have a bunch of settings that I need to change in Yast, particularly the hardware section. However, these functions require me to be logged in as root, so each time I switch to a new section I need to reenter my login. This is very tedious. Also, it seems like changes under the root account (such as themes, sounds..etc) does not affect the user so I have to do it twice. Is there a way to login as a regular user but launch Yast with root access?

That seems strange. Or do you close YaST after each change you make?

If you are logged in as a normal user, you can launch Yast and it will ask you to enter the root password and should keep that password until you exit out of Yast, this will give your root access for the whole duration of using Yast, even if you change sections. If you close Yast and relaunch it, it will ask for your password again. When you are logged in as root already, you shouldn't be prompted to enter a password. If you don't want to keep typing in your password, keep the main Yast window open. Other windows will open if you click on different items, but as long as you keep the main window open, you will not have to type in your password each time.

Also, themes and sounds and stuff, if you are using KDE, can be changed in the KDE Control Center and that will change for the current user unless you make changes that involve changes for all users, but you will need to provide the root password to do that. Themes can be changed for the current user in the KDE control center without affecting other accounts.
