How do I tell if I'm using 32 bit or 64?

I just upgraded my athlon64 from Suse 9.1 to 9.3. Everything went smoothly, but I never selected the version of suse I wanted to install (64bit). I didn't notice it in the installation screens, and I haven't seen anything in the admin guide, so I've got a stupid question. How do I tell which version I've got installed?

uname -a

Thanks. It seemed so stupid!

Hello, did you manage to install sus 64 bit version?Have you tried 9.2??How did you bypass yast problems?
Because i'm trying to install 9.2 64 bit version but when it says starting yast it goes blank without an error and stops there.

Looks like the OP went from 9.1 to 9.3 not 9.2. If this is the case then most likely the upgrade was using the disks since there is no 64bit FTP version that I can find out yet.

Arrgh! I lost a long reply.

I did indeed go straight from 9.1 to 9.3, and I bought the complete DVD install both times. I have gone from 64 bit to 32 bit and back to 64 bit. To do so, you have to do a fresh install. I even let it repartition, just to be safe. I have experimented with doing an update to change one way or the other, but as I expected, that failed.

Another way is to open KDE control center & on the 1st open page all your basic info is listed on the right.

A third way would be to open Konsole and type:
cat /proc/version

Actually, that just tells you your KDE version, kernel, and cpu. It does not, at least for me, mention whether you are running 32 or 64 bits.

This is all I get: Linux version 2.6.11.4-21.7-default (geeko@buildhost) (gcc version 3.3.5 20050117 (prerelease) (SUSE Linux)) #1 Thu Jun 2 14:23:14 UTC 2005

SlowMindThinkin 07-03-2005 06:03 PM

uname -a gives me:
Linux linux 2.6.11.4-21.7-default #1 Thu Jun 2 14:23:14 UTC 2005 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I assume with all those 64's in there, at least one refers to the OS and not the cpu.
