how do i make opening a terminal to be quicker?

when i click on Konsole
or Alt-F2 - xterm,

it takes like 5 seconds to load..

but once Konsole is open, I can open new ones faster (Ctrl-N)

is there a way to speed things up?
like keep it pre-loaded all the time or something?

i have 700mb memory, amd 1.5+ amd

thanks

You can add it to your Run levels to start it on startup. Not to be sarcastic, but is 5 seconds a long time in the grand scheme of things? I mean in a fire, ok I can see; but in 5 seconds you could give your loved ones some attention lol.

I have to say... 5 seconds is an eon in modern computing. And sure, you may not mind it once craz, but how about opening it and other programs a few hundred times in a few hours...Yes, I really do that... that is a loss of 5seconds x 200... 10 minutes. So halving the time means you save 5 minutes...

Depending on your distro cynick(being here I am assuming SuSE...which version, you may be able to preload cache programs like in SLICK, but that is distro dependant. You could also check out optimizing some other parts of your system, like the kernel, swap space, hd access times to drive the overall performance up.
