How do I load a driver module at start up

Hello,

I have a Rocket Raid 2310 card and I built a driver in Suse 11.0 x64. It loads. However, I now want to create a raid array, and load the driver I just built on boot up so I can install a fresh copy of suse on the raid 5 array. How do you load a module at boot so I can see the array and do an installation? I tried doing an Acronis backup of the system and moving it to the array, but the restore fails.

Can somebody point me to some instructions?

Regards,

Randy.

Add the name of the module to /etc/modules.conf (/etc/modules on Debian)

I can't see the drives until I load the driver

Wow, what a quick response! You answered a question that I have been looking for for some time for loading a module when a system is already installed.

Now, if I don't have a system loaded at all, and I boot from the install disk, how do I load the driver so I can install to the array? I know you can press F6 and use a floppy, but that implies some type of install script.

I hope this makes sense!

Regards,

Randy.

Modules can be loaded at boot time and definitely require a kernel. You do not seem to require something like 'dkms' or do you?

Create a custom install disk which will load needed module at boot as standard - I think YAST CD Creator can be used for this but I'm not sure - never needed something like this and haven't used SUSE for a while
