How and Where Do I Install MPlayer?

I am running SuSe 9.2 and I downloaded MPlayer and attempted to install it. However I ran into some problems:

Where do I install the program?
Where do I install the fonts?
Where do I install the skins?
Where do I install the codecs?

Since I already installed it into a directory I made called /programs, do I need to unistall and reinstall or can I salvage my installation. Total newbie here, please provide a detailed response. Thanx!

Packman has a very complete collection of multimedia RPMs for SUSE

Where do I install the program?

In suse 9.2 you have a bin folder in your home dir, i normal untar soruces there and then ./configure, make and then make install

Where do I install the fonts?

/usr/local/share/mplayer/font/

Where do I install the skins?

You need to compile with gui in order to use mplayer with a gui
./configure --enable-gui

Where do I install the codecs?

Before your run the install of mplayer your need to make a codecs folder because mplayer needs to compile with the codecs...

/usr/local/lib/codecs/
