Hotplugged device names

I have an external firewire hard drive with three partitions. When I plug it in, the partitions all mount and are accessible. However, the mount point is something like /media/ieee001757LONGSTRINGHERE_p1/ I can unmount and remount it where I want, but I would like it to auto mount to something friendly like /media/external. I have added some fstab entries, but these don't seem to help:

/dev/sda3 /media/external reiserfs noauto,user,rw,exec,sync 0 0
/dev/sda7 /media/backup reiserfs noauto,user,rw,exec,sync 0 0
/dev/sda5 /media/fat vfat noauto,user,rw,exec,sync 0 0

What do I need to change to auto mount where I choose?

If this is in the SuSE manual, excuse me. I'm at work and can't check it just now.

Thanks a lot.

I am not an expert on that, but have a look in /etc/hotplug/ieee1394.agent

In this script the $LABEL variable is set. Maybe you could change this ?!

Another option is to switch-off subfs that should enable you to specify the mountpoint youself. See: http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2004/0...rom_subfs.html

A third option could be to define the device in /etc/hotplug/ieee1394.handmap, but I have no idea if and how this is possible.
