Hosts not resolving

Two problems sort of...
I added a new host to /etc/hosts syntax is:
192.168.1.102 laptop laptop

When i go to smb://192.168.1.102 it goes fine, but smb://laptop does not.

Even if I could make that works, DHCP always changed the IPs around and right now I am printing to 192.168.1.100. How can I make it go by name regardless of what IP DHCP gives it?

192.168.1.102 laptop
should suffice.

Setup an internal DNS server and do dynamic DNS updates from the clients. OR, configure DHCP to assign by MAC address.
